In 2021 three professionals—with decades of high-level experience in the energy, finance and policy sectors—began working with an international nonprofit focused on a monetary policy solution to climate change. This work led to many spirited discussions about the critical path, and the roadblocks on it, to getting enough money and technology deployed to materially mitigate climate change. Whether in front of a whiteboard or a bourbon, this core group discussed a wide range of problems and solutions for a year. These became the basis for a whitepaper, which was presented and discussed during a session of the 2023 NYC Climate Week.
As discussions about the use of digital technology to fix finance inefficiencies ripened, the group reached out to experts in multiple fields, and over the course of 2023 and 2024 a thought experiment became two working groups and those became the CEART ecosystem and Atterriss.com.
